Occupational Therapist/Care Manager
Laura White Carpenter is an occupational therapist with 25 years of experience specializing in geriatric functioning, cognition and mental health. She is a graduate of Boston University with a Master’s in Occupational Therapy, graduated from UConn with a Master’s in Human Development and Family Relations with advanced training in Social Gerontology, Long-term Care Facility Management, and Counseling. She is licensed in LSVT BIG to address movement dysfunction for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease, and addresses their mental health needs by facilitating guided healing arts groups to promote function, socialization and self-expression. Additionally, Laura holds degrees in Psychology, Art Therapy, and is a licensed Massage Therapist with training in palliative care.
Laura brings expertise in assessing the life skills, self-care abilities and functional safety of clients in their home context, and providing solutions to best promote safety while also encouraging supportive independence and meaningful engagement. She performs comprehensive home safety evaluations, and guides clients towards optimal durable medical equipment and environmental adjustments to maximize function.
Laura has lived / volunteered on four continents, including being a Peace Corps Volunteer in forestry/ health sanitation in Africa and teaching a semester of occupational therapy in Asia through Health Volunteers Overseas. She is also an internationally recognized sculptor in ceramics, metals and found objects. She maintains an art studio in Pawtucket.
